Another long overdue news post, but as you can probably tell, it's some of the most exciting news I've had the pleasure of delivering. My Capture the Flag map, New Cerberon, is now available for online play in QUAKE LIVE! As with all newly-released arenas, it is currently a Premium map; therefore, you'll either need a subscription to play it, or have one of your Premium / Pro friends invite you to a match.
I'm absolutely elated to have had the opportunity to contribute to such a great game, and I hope the QUAKE LIVE community finds it enjoyable. Oh, and don't forget to check out the other five new maps in the update as well - they're all fantastic! News Post (QL Forums): http://www.quakelive.com/forum/showthread.php?36747-QLPP21-Site-Update-May-14-2014 News Post (ESReality): http://www.esreality.com/post/2593877/quake-live-premium-pak-21/ Official news post description by SyncError: Straight from the pages of the Mapping Corner forum, we're pleased to bring you 'New Cerberon'. From the up and coming designer EmeraldTiger, New Cerberon heralds the first look at the Strogg's recreation of their fallen capital following the vicious war between the Strogg and the Global Defense Forces. Their knack for oddly symmetrical designs happens to work out great for gladiators teleported in for Capture the Flag action, with a classic base design that can be attacked in different low, medium, and high routes. Between the bases lies an open area holding various smaller items, and a Rocket Launcher, although plenty of angles exist for players who have grabbed the Railgun. It's been a long time coming, (mainly due to some optimization struggles) but the first Beta release of New Cerberon is here! A commentary of my in-development map, New Cerberon, has been released by Ferdinand "cityy" List. Many thanks to cityy for his time; hopefully I can learn much from his thoughts and comments! No, this isn't the Sonic Mayhem track. I'm just here to tell you about the 1st Alpha for my new QL CTF map, "New Cerberon".
Download and leave feedback at this link: http://www.quakelive.com/forum/showthread.php?30909-New-Cerberon-%28Alpha-1%29-newcerberon_a1.bsp-by-EmeraldTiger I figured I should update the blog again while I have the chance. I'm looking into completely redesigning the site though at some point, but don't ask for an ETA on that just yet.
Anyways I recently purchased Issue #50 of the 3D Artist magazine which includes some neat programs and features such as Vue 10 Frontier, which I'm experimenting with along with Blender. I'm pondering the idea of making several showcase-only pieces with them, but we'll see how it goes. Yesterday, the second edition of the Sparta Cups hosted by Puffdar had finished, with "reload" emerging victorious. Streaming was performed on one of the servers in France, with more games played on the Warsow E-Sport Servers and the YOBA servers. The games were fun to watch, and it was intriguing to observe players battling on my map in such a competitive environment.
I'll be using much of the advice given during the Sparta Cup and on the Warsow thread to make improvements for the third beta of Catharsis, and hopefully the last one before it gets the finalized status. Stream Link: http://www.twitch.tv/tongue_ (4 titled "Sparta Cup 2") Some truly wonderful news to deliver - my Warsow map Catharsis (Beta 2) is featured in the map pool of the Sparta Duel Cup #2, organized by Puffdar. The date is set for December 23rd, and this Sunday the prize money (courtesy of several generous donators) from 1st to 8th place will be announced. Full details available at the official Sparta Cup page: http://spartacup.tourney.cc/ Thanks to Puffdar for the announcement and organization of the cup. Hope to see some awesome matches on it!
I should've posted this earlier as it's been out for a while, but better late than never! If you haven't checked it out on the Warsow forums, here is a link to the 2nd beta for Catharsis: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/27277779/paswdm1_b2.zip The map has received some attention from the competitive community, and as usual you can find it on the Warsow ESport servers, thanks to crizis of course. A few games have been played on the second beta already, which is exciting to hear.
The first beta for my Warsow map, Catharsis, is now available: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/27277779/paswdm1_b1.zip Feel free to leave by comments, suggestions, and bug reports. Your thoughts are always welcome!
